Choosing the right lift chair

Electric Lift Chairs are recliners that also will rise to make it easier to stand. Folks with arthritis, hip problems, knee problems, diabetes, stroke victims, shoulder weakness, leg swelling, neuropathies, and those recovering from many types of surgery often need a lift chair to safely get up from a seated position.

Just like regular recliners, there are several styles and sizes to choose from. It is important to get the lift chair that fits you properly. Sizes range from petite to extra large and "tall" models. You want to get one that meets your needs and that you find comfortable. We recommend that you call (512-476-0500 or 877-324-5329) or come by to find out more about the many types of lift chairs available. We have several brands, styles, and types of lift chairs in our showroom at 2041 S Lamar.  Some even have heat and massage built in.  Our certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) will help you choose the right size lift chair with the right options.

So, what does a quality lift chair cost? Many people are surprised to find that they start at only $595. Top of the line lift chairs in custom fabrics with heat and massage are less than $2000. Whatever your requirements, R Martin will provide the right lift chair.

Types of lift/recline options:

A 2 position classification means that the lift chair can recline to approximately a 45 degree angle, but it can also recline to any position up to that point. You aren't locked into only 2 positions. It also will lift you up to a standing position. The chairs have a motor that provides the lift and recline features. A push button hand controller controls the lift chair. These are fully automatic lift chair recliners. We offer both Pride Lift Chairs and Golden Lift Recliners.

A 3 position lift chair can recline to a nearly flat position as well as every position in between. The foot rest and the back operate together - as the back reclines, the footrest raises. The chair also lifts up to provide a standing position for the user. These are motorized lift chairs that operate on normal household current. The user controls the functions of the chair with the hand controller provided.

Infinite position lift chairs have two motors. With 2 or 3 position chairs, when you recline your foot rest will raise as well and the position of the footrest is not adjustable. The infinite position chair recline and footrest positions are independent of each other. The controller has two buttons instead on one like on the 2 or 3 position chairs. One button for the back and one for thecu foot rest. This enables you to adjust the recline angle and footrest to your individual preference. And, because these chairs recline fully, they can be used for sleeping.

Zero Gravity lift chairs have two motors like the infinite position models. They have the features of infinite position and also feature the ability to place the person into the “Zero Gravity Position.” This position keeps an individual’s legs above his or her heart and provides open space between the thighs and torso. This position is frequently advised for people with lower back pain, poor circulation, or reduced lung capacity.

Bariatric lift chairs can handle up to 500 lbs or more. These chairs are built specially with sturdier frames and larger motors and lift mechanisms. They also have extra cushioning to support additional weight.

Electric Lift Chair Recliners add freedom and comfort to any person's daily life who has trouble getting up and getting comfortable in regular furniture. Many people can benefit, such as those with arthritis, hip problems, knee problems, diabetes, stroke victims, shoulder weakness, leg swelling, neuropathies, and those recovering from many types of surgery.
